Here is Jay holding the MDM (Mentos Delivery Module). This was the first experiment of Mentos and diet Coke. We used a copper pipe and a piece of card stock paper to allow the "loading" of the MDM. When the stock paper was pulled, the several Mentos dropped into the 2 liter bottle very quickly. It was so quick that I barely had time to snap this picture. As you can see, Jay has pulled the MDM away and soda is still coming out of the MDM as well as erupting from the 2 liter bottle !

After that experiment, card stock paper and a long pin were used as the MDM. This was due to the copper pipe MDM being quite wet inside, which slowed the delivery of the Mentos considerably. We had thoughts of cleaning and drying, but in the interest of science (and time), the alternate MDM (card stock with long pin) was now used.
